Surprise for Mom: Family photos, as adults

Back at the end of March, I had a special, top-secret photo session scheduled while we were in Grants Pass for spring break: getting together with my best friend, her three brothers, their wives, and assorted kidlets to get a group family photo (for the first time since they were kids, needless to say)…all as a surprise for their mom for Mother’s Day and her birthday in May.

Amid much juggling of work schedules and cursing of the weather—because of course it was cold and pouring all week, with lots of urban and rural flooding in fields, and there was nowhere indoors to accommodate 11 people—we got lucky for one brief hour on a Thursday morning. We met at Reinhart Volunteer Park (a.k.a., the All-Sports Park) at 10:00 a.m. and had almost a full half-hour with only a few sprinkles—just long enough to get pictures of the 4 adult siblings and the whole group before we had to take cover in a picnic shelter and one brother had to return to work. Ah, the joys of photos in early spring in a town where you don’t live.  ;-)

And while I love surprise gifts, it turns out I have a hard time keeping secrets. I just wanted to share the photos soooooo badly…but I didn’t. I had self-control. But mama Kathi got her photos from her children on Saturday, so now I’m free to reveal. Yea! She loved them and, as she said, “When I saw them, let’s just say that I ‘cried and blubbered’ a lot!”

That’s the best kind of reaction, I think.

There are more photos to post from their session, but here’s one they gave Mom.

Enjoy!
